VIETNAM GASTRONOMY TOURISM 2018 – Vietnamese Cuisine reaches out to the World

“Vietnam Gastronomy Tourism” (VGT) Culinary Event with the theme of “Vietnamese Cuisine reaches out to the World”, is an event that takes place parallel with the International Friendship Day (IFD) which is organized by the International Alumni Network (iAN). This year, Restaurant Association Vietnam Initiative (RAV) is proud to host the VGT Food Festival and co-sponsor other activities along the side.


“Going to Vietnam the first time was life-changing for sure; maybe because it was all so new and different to my life before and the world I grew up in. The food, culture, landscape and smell; they’re all inseparable. It just seemed like another planet; a delicious one that sort of sucked me in and never let go” – Anthony Bourdain, one of the most influenced world chef, said in CNN News


It can be said that in the past decade, Vietnamese cuisine has made a strong impression on the map of the world cuisine when a variety of dishes such as Pho bo, Banh mi, etc. occupying a very high position on the charts of top culinary magazines. It is undeniable that international friends, especially culinary experts and famous chefs who have a great love of Vietnamese food contribute to this success enormously.  


“Le Chef” Didier Corlou, who is a member of the Culinary Academy France and a 5 Stars Diamond Award Chef, has spent over 20 years to promote Vietnamese cuisine to international friends, especially nuoc mam (fish sauce). “Fish-sauce King” Corlou says that for him, traditional fish sauce is the quintessence of the sea, extremely safe and pure. Likewise, he uses fish sauce as the raw material to most of his pieces and at the age of 62, he is planning to open his own “fish-sauce museum”.

Another example of the innate love from the outsiders is Anthony Bourdain. Anthony Bourdain, who is American celebrity chef, travel documentarian, and television personality who starred in cuisine TV programs, is deeply in love with Vietnamese food when there are more than thrice he put Vietnamese dishes on his own show “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” and in the season 8 of the same show that aired in September 2016, he came back to Vietnam and together with the Former President of the United State of America Barack Obama, they enjoyed bun cha – Hanoi specialty.

With the idea of “Vietnamese cuisine reaches out to the world” based on the theme of “Vietnam: Integration and Development” and looking forward to supporting and promoting the growth of the restaurant-service industry in Vietnam as well as contributing to the blooming era of Vietnamese cuisine – becoming the “World Kitchen”, through the VGT Culinary Event with the participation of international friends from 12 different countries, RAV confidently believes that Vietnam’s culinary art and culture will be strongly introduced so that opportunities will be created which lead to the development of the city’s tourism and one of the whole country in general.

Notably, there will be an interesting and prominent event: Record “10-metre Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls participated by the most international contestants”. Besides, there will be a lot of alongside activities such as iAN Talk Seminar and Hipfest International 2018: The final round
